MoonPicks98 Recap: Why We Still Liked the Bets Despite the Results

Parlay of the Day Result: ❌ LossFree Pick of the Day: ❌ LossOverall: The process was solid, even if the results didn't go our way.

One of the biggest misconceptions in sports betting is that a losing ticket automatically means it was a bad bet. The reality is much different.

Successful sports bettors focus on making positive expected value (EV) wagers, knowing that even the best bets lose on a regular basis. Monday's Parlay of the Day is a perfect example. We still believe each leg offered value based on the matchup, current form, and betting market, even though the final outcome wasn't what we wanted.

Let's break down each selection.

Seattle Mariners Moneyline (-122) ❌ Loss

Also Our Free Pick of the Day

Seattle was our favorite standalone play for several reasons.

Why We Made the Pick

The Mariners entered the game with what we believed was one of the stronger pitching advantages on the board. Seattle's recent form, bullpen depth, and favorable matchup all pointed toward value at -122.

Our model also liked:

  • Strong starting pitching outlook

  • Bullpen edge in a close game

  • Positive recent offensive trends

  • Fair market price below our target threshold

Unfortunately, baseball is a game of small margins. A few missed opportunities at the plate and timely hits by the opposition were enough to flip the result.

Did the bet lose? Yes.

Do we still believe it was a good wager at -122? Absolutely.

Over a full MLB season, these are the types of positions we want to continue taking.

Result: ❌ Loss

Cincinnati Reds Moneyline (-147) ➖ Void

This game never had the opportunity to play out.

The Reds matchup was postponed because of rain and officially graded as a void, meaning all wagers were refunded.

The game has now been rescheduled as part of a doubleheader on Tuesday, July 28th.

We have a breakdown of things to look for in this doubleheader HERE

Voids can be frustrating when you're excited about a play, but they're simply part of sports betting. The important thing is that your bankroll is protected and no loss is recorded.

We'll continue to evaluate today's matchup separately based on the updated pitching and lineup information.

Result: ➖ Void

Milwaukee Brewers Moneyline (-127) ❌ Loss

Milwaukee rounded out our three-team parlay.

Why We Liked It

The Brewers checked several boxes before first pitch.

  • Reliable starting pitching

  • Strong bullpen

  • Consistent offensive production

  • Favorable matchup according to our projections

While Milwaukee ultimately fell short, this is another reminder that good handicapping doesn't guarantee immediate results.

Even bets with positive expected value will lose a significant percentage of the time.

Professional bettors judge themselves by the quality of the wager—not a single final score.

Result: ❌ Loss

Parlay Recap

Legs

❌ Seattle Mariners ML (-122)

➖ Cincinnati Reds ML (-147) (Voided due to rain; game moved to July 28)

❌ Milwaukee Brewers ML (-127)

Final Result: ❌ Loss

Because two legs lost, the parlay did not cash, regardless of the voided Reds game.

Free Pick Recap

Seattle Mariners ML (-122)

Result: ❌ Loss

While the outcome wasn't what we wanted, we'll continue to post our Free Pick every day because we believe transparency is one of the most important parts of sports betting.

You'll see our wins, our losses, and everything in between.

Lessons From Monday

Every losing ticket offers an opportunity to evaluate the process.

After reviewing these games, we still believe the handicapping behind each play was sound. Baseball is a sport with high variance, and even strong favorites lose regularly over the course of a 162-game season.

That's why our focus remains on:

  • Finding value instead of chasing favorites

  • Taking disciplined positions at the right prices

  • Managing bankroll responsibly

  • Staying consistent over the long run

Those principles are what build profitability—not trying to win every bet.

Looking Ahead

The Reds game has been moved to Tuesday, July 28th, as part of a doubleheader, giving bettors another opportunity to evaluate that matchup with updated pitching assignments and market odds.

As always, we'll continue breaking down the best betting opportunities and sharing both our Free Picks and Premium Plays every day.

Thanks to everyone who followed along, and we'll be back with another card looking to bounce back.
