This was one of our favorite MLB matchups on the board because of the significant advantage we saw on the mound.

Tampa Bay sent Drew Rasmussen to the mound with a 2.75 ERA and 0.91 WHIP, while the Athletics countered with Jack Perkins, who entered with a 7.04 ERA and 1.45 WHIP.

That was a major pitching discrepancy.

We expected Tampa Bay to have opportunities offensively while Rasmussen gave the Rays a strong chance to control the game from the mound.

The Rays were also the much stronger team overall. Tampa Bay entered the matchup 73-46, compared with Oakland at 47-73, and the Athletics had one of baseball's worst run differentials.

Everything pointed toward Tampa Bay being the superior side.

The Rays moneyline was too expensive for what we're trying to accomplish with our picks.

Instead of laying a price around -200 on Tampa Bay simply to win, we moved to:
