Tuesday Takeover Recap: Blue Jays & Rays Cash, but the Top 5 Finish 2–3

Tuesday, August 11, 2026 gave us one of those MLB cards that perfectly illustrates why sports betting is about the long-term process rather than one night's results.

For our Tuesday Takeover, we opened up our Premium Top 5 plays for everyone to see for FREE. We entered the night with five selections we felt offered a strong combination of matchup advantages, price and probability.

The final result was 2 wins and 3 losses, with one of those losses being an especially painful hook as Dylan Cease finished with 7 strikeouts when we needed 8.

Here's a breakdown of the card, why we liked each play, and how it turned out.

✅ WIN — Toronto Blue Jays Moneyline -133 — 1 Unit

Why We Liked Toronto

Toronto was our top-ranked play of the day, and a major reason was the starting-pitching advantage with Dylan Cease on the mound against Boston.

Cease had been one of the more dominant starting pitchers this season, and his ability to generate strikeouts gave Toronto an opportunity to control the game without constantly relying on its offense to win a slugfest.

We also liked Toronto because of its recent success against Boston and the price.

At -133, we weren't being asked to lay an extreme number to back the team we believed had the better overall pitching situation.

The Result: CASH IT! 💰

Toronto got the job done and cashed our Free Play of the Day.

That's especially important because we made the Blue Jays available as our featured FREE PICK, giving everyone following MoonPicks98 an opportunity to get in on the winner.

Result: ✅ WIN

✅ WIN — Tampa Bay Rays -1.5 -108 — 1 Unit

Why We Liked Tampa Bay

This was one of our favorite value plays on the entire board.

Instead of laying a significantly more expensive Tampa Bay moneyline, we took the Rays to win by two or more runs at -108.

That gave us close to even-money pricing on a matchup where we believed Tampa Bay had advantages in both starting pitching and overall roster quality.

The previous game had also exposed Oakland's vulnerability late in games. That was important because a run-line wager doesn't simply require Tampa Bay to win — we needed separation.

We believed Tampa could create that separation either early against the starter or later against the bullpen.

The Result: ANOTHER WIN

The Rays delivered the multi-run victory we needed.

Taking the -1.5 instead of paying the inflated moneyline proved to be the right market.

Result: ✅ WIN

That put our two full 1-unit plays at 2–0.

❌ LOSS — Milwaukee Brewers Moneyline -115 — 1 Unit

Why We Liked Milwaukee

Milwaukee was one of our favorite price-to-probability plays of Tuesday's card.

The Brewers entered the matchup as one of baseball's strongest teams, and we particularly liked the starting-pitching matchup.

At only -115, we believed Milwaukee was priced much closer to a coin flip than our handicap suggested.

That's generally something we're looking for.

The objective isn't simply to identify which team is better. It's to identify situations where our estimated probability of winning is greater than what the market price implies.

Milwaukee fit that profile.

The Result

This one didn't go our way.

That's baseball.

A wager can have a sound handicap and an attractive price and still lose. One individual result doesn't automatically make the original reasoning incorrect.

Result: ❌ LOSS

🪝❌ LOSS — Dylan Cease Over 7.5 Strikeouts -125 — ¾ Unit

THE HOOK!

This was easily the most frustrating result on Tuesday's card.

We needed:

8 strikeouts.

Cease finished with:

7 strikeouts.

That's the dreaded HOOK. 🪝

Why We Liked the Prop

The reasoning behind this play was straightforward.

Cease had demonstrated elite strikeout ability throughout the season, and the matchup with Boston presented another opportunity for a high-K performance.

His strikeout production entering the matchup supported a number around 7.5, and his previous success against Boston made the Over particularly interesting.

At -125, we felt the price remained playable.

Because player props inherently carry additional variance, we also practiced bankroll discipline by making this a ¾-unit play instead of a full unit.

The Result: Seven Strikeouts

Cease pitched well enough to help our Toronto moneyline cash.

Unfortunately, he stopped at 7 Ks.

One more strikeout and we're celebrating another winner.

Instead:

Over 7.5 = ❌ LOSS 🪝

Painful? Absolutely.

But we're not going to pretend it was anything other than a loss.

Transparency matters.

❌ LOSS — Philadelphia Phillies -1.5 +111 — ¾ Unit

Why We Liked Philadelphia

Philadelphia presented another situation where we preferred the run line over an expensive moneyline.

Instead of paying a premium simply for Philadelphia to win, we took:

Phillies -1.5 at +111.

We believed the starting-pitching advantage gave Philadelphia a legitimate opportunity to win by multiple runs, and the plus-money return made the risk worthwhile.

This is an important distinction in our betting philosophy.

Sometimes the favorite is worth betting — but the moneyline isn't necessarily the best way to bet that favorite.

The Result

Philadelphia didn't provide the two-run margin we needed, sending our final play of the night into the loss column.

Result: ❌ LOSS

📊 Tuesday's Final Results

Toronto Blue Jays ML -133 — ✅ WIN

Tampa Bay Rays -1.5 -108 — ✅ WIN

Milwaukee Brewers ML -115 — ❌ LOSS

Dylan Cease O7.5 Ks -125 — ❌ LOSS 🪝

Philadelphia Phillies -1.5 +111 — ❌ LOSS

Final Record: 2–3

It wasn't the result we wanted.

And we're not going to dress it up as something it wasn't.

But there are a couple of important takeaways.

Our two highest-unit winners — Toronto and Tampa Bay — both cashed, while the Cease prop missed by exactly one strikeout.

The card still finished 2–3, and that's what goes into the record.

One Night Doesn't Define the Process

There will be winning days.

There will be losing days.

There will be sweeps.

And there will occasionally be nights when seemingly everything goes wrong.

The objective isn't to pretend otherwise.

Our goal at MoonPicks98 is to consistently search for wagers where we believe the available price doesn't accurately reflect the true probability of the outcome.

That's also why we use a unit system.

We aren't betting the same amount blindly on every selection. Our confidence level, price and expected edge influence how much we're willing to risk.

And we're certainly not chasing losses after a difficult night.

Tomorrow starts at 0–0.

We research the new slate, evaluate the numbers, compare them with the market and look for the next opportunities.
